ATTRACT & RETAIN EVENT RECAP

Did you miss the Attract & Retain event?

No worries, here’s what you missed!

Loraine Mitchell was a key panelist at this month’s Northern Beaches Council event, where she shared essential tips for attracting and retaining top talent. We didn’t want the wider business community to miss out, here are her insights:

THE ART OF ATTRACTION

1) UNDERSTANDING TODAY’S JOB SEEKERS
The art of attraction starts with taking the time to understand what job seekers are looking for, why they move, their expectations and drivers. Here’s some local insight for you:
  • Work-Life Balance: Well-being & job satisfaction with flexible work hours & remote options.
  • Purpose-Driven Careers: Beyond monetary rewards, they seek purpose in their work & are attracted by your company’s mission & values.
  • Inclusive Culture: Supportive cultures that value diversity & inclusivity.
  • Professional Growth Opportunities: Career advancement pathways & upskill opportunities.
  • Transparent Communication: Open & transparent communication during the hiring process for a positive experience that fosters trust.
  • Positive Employer Branding: They are reading reviews & testimonials.
2) COMMUNICATE THE ‘WHY’
You know how great your business and team are BUT the job seeker doesn’t. A clearly communicated company mission and company values along with the benefits will be one of your biggest attraction tools.

3) THE CAMPAIGN
Job boards like SEEK targeting ACTIVE job seekers should only be a small part of your overall strategy. Representing almost 60% of the market, it’s the untapped potential of the PASSIVE market that often yields exceptional talent. PASSIVE job seekers are inclined to leverage their networks, rather than trawling through ad listings. They take a long-term view and crave deeper insights.

For us, 57% of our placements are sourced from our activity NOT from job boards!
This is only possible due to our connections, proactive campaigns, and a 21,000-strong database of local PASSIVE job seekers.

4) BE OPEN TO WHAT’S BEHIND THE CV
It’s hard to find good talent when you’re closed off to opportunities. Think about transferable skills, consider all levels and ages, think outside the box. Most importantly, DON”T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS about a resume without finding out about the person behind it. The talent is under your nose.

THE RETENTION RECIPE

1) CULTURE CONNECTION
A staggering 68% of employees leave their bosses. During the screening and interviewing phase, it’s essential to look beyond the skill set. A connection across culture, company values, and leadership contributes to high retention rates as you create an environment where employees feel a strong sense of belonging and purpose.

The mme formula focuses on a JOB + BOSS + CULTURE selection process which means you’re 3x more likely to find the right person for your organisation.

2) ENGAGE AND RETAIN
Transforming new hires into fully engaged team members is just as important as finding them. The recipe comes down to a comprehensive and supportive onboarding process, an aftercare program is the ingredient that ensures top talent stays. Key elements include reward programs, professional and personal development (and the pathways to go with it), effective communication channels, well-being and benefit packages, mentor and support offerings, a positive and inclusive environment, and TRUST.

Our unique onboarding and aftercare program contributes to our 94.8% retention rates PLUS 63% of our hires stay for more than 5 years!

Employment Market Trends Quarter 2 24/25

The 2024 calendar year was defined by cautious economic policies, tighter budgets, and tough decisions. Smaller Northern Beaches businesses, in particular, had to navigate these challenges, while larger companies showed some resilience. The slowdown in wage growth also limited consumer spending, further affecting the economy. Looking ahead, 2025 offers a more optimistic outlook. The…

Wondering where to find high-quality candidates? You won’t always find them on your local job boards. To find the best people, you must look beyond the ads.
